Ok Ladies, pat yourself on the back you have survived over a year of lockdown. But now the world is telling you it’s time to get back to “normal”. You stop and think of what “normal” looked like before the world paused and you realized that maybe the “normal” before COVID is not what you desire to return to. Now is your opportunity to create your new “normal” and incorporate new daily routines that will create the healthiest, strongest version of you.
What are the Dimensions of Wellness?
In order to achieve wellness, one must first have a clear understanding of what wellness is and realize it is multidimensional. When most people define wellness, they think of physical appearance only. According to the Global Institute of Wellness, wellness includes physical; mental; emotional; spiritual; social; and environmental well-being.
I hear you saying - Sis I can barely fit in 30 minutes of exercise a day and you want me to focus on all of these different areas of my life to achieve wellness? My answer to you is YES. I am challenging you as I challenge myself to be intentional and determine how you will use your time, and remain consistent when life is pulling you in different directions.
Simple Changes to Achieve Your Personal Goals
First step, buy you a planner or find the planner you brought six months ago that is just serving as a coaster on your nightstand. You still have a good five months left to use that planner and change your life for the better. Dust off that planner and get to work. Start by writing your goals down and planning your day. Think about what you want your mornings and evenings to look like. I know that distractions come throughout the day. but if you can control the first and last few hours of your day, you can handle what life throws at you.
This may mean that you have to spend less time on social media before bedtime or you can’t binge watch your favorite show on Netflix. Most of us have all planned to take a quick glance at our social media accounts and realized how quickly hours passed while we browsed online. Before we realize it is 2:00 am in the morning and we keep hitting next episode and Netflix kindly asks if we are still there. When the end of the week occurs, we swear we didn’t have enough time to reach our goals. Below I have listed some free and inexpensive ways that can be a foundation for holistic wellness. I encourage you to find what your idea of wellness is because it is different for everyone and that is ok.
Physical: Set a bedtime; Go for a walk; Eat less processed foods; Create skin care routine; Schedule wellness exams.
Mental: Deep breathing exercises; Journaling; Daily affirmations.
Environmental: Create a quiet place; Add plants to your work or home space; Change job or career path.
Social: Connect with friends who respect your time and have similar goals. Remove yourself from toxic relationships.
Spiritual: Take time to meditate; Pray.
Find an Accountability Partner
Once you have set your goals and scheduled time to achieve your goals, I encourage you to find an accountability partner or a supportive community. I hope to create a community through She Chose Wellness that will serve as an accountability partner and a group of sister friends who will encourage and support women who are seeking to become the best version of themselves.
So as things return back to “normal” I encourage you to determine what you want your “normal” to look like and be unapologetic about it. As you start your day and you pick out the perfect earrings, put on your favorite lip gloss, and jump into your favorite jeans I want you to always remember to “make wellness your best accessory”.
Thank you for taking the time to pour into lives! These are all healthy and encouraging gems that I will definitely incorporate into my busy life. It is time to prioritize my wellness. As a busy wife, mother and healthcare worker, I can't be the best for those around me if I am not at my best mentally, physically, spiritually, mentally and emotionally😀
